Lander has a rich history that includes
the start of Wyoming's uranium, oil and coal industries and the Pony
Express. It has hosted such famed historic figures as Butch Cassidy
and Calamity Jane. The origin of Lander Wyoming goes back to a treaty
with the Shoshone Indians in 1868, which led to the establishment of
Ft. Auger and the Wind River Indian Reservation.
